Sermon March 8, 2026

1 John

To have a Courageous Walk with God…

You must seek a “Sin-less” walk

It is impossible to have a sinless life you may be saying. It is impossible to live a sinless life… but it is altogether possible to live a sin-“less” life. That has to be our desire… to sin less… and less… and less.

Paul tells us in 1 Cor 10:13 that No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He… will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. God will provide a way out, but you have to look for it and be courageous enough to believe in it.

To have a Courageous Walk with God…

You must have an Obedient Walk

In chapter 2, John addresses the topic of obedience. “We know that we have come to know him if we obey His commands.” The key to obedience is to give up your will in favor of God’s will. Galatians 2:20 puts it this way. “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Obedience really boils down to faith or where you place your faith. We all live by faith in something. The key is where you place your faith. The more obedient we are to God’s plan and the more of the old self that we are willing to give up in favor of the new self; and the more of the old self we give up, the closer we get to God.

1 John 1:7 “If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us from all sin.”

James 2:20-22 “You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless”…You see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did.

If you are in step with God, you will have the right attitude about sin. If you are in step with God, you will obey Him.

To have a Courageous Walk with God…

You must have a consistent walk.

1 John 2:7-8 “Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command…is the message you have heard. Yet, I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in Him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.”

Listen, have a consistent walk is all about desire. What do you desire? It’s all about deciding what you’re willing to give up in order to get as close to God as possible. The bible is clear that we can not serve two masters and it’s so true. “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate4 the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. (Luke 16:13

Paul says the same thing in Eph 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as chldren of light.”

Listen, living a Godly life is living a great life. It’s a decision that you’ll make on y our knees before God and it’s an on-going decision that you’ll have to recommit to every day of your life.

2 Cor 5:16-17 “So from now on… we regard no one from a worldly point of view… Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
